Licht, Lucht, Water – de schilders van Den Haag. Van plein-air pioniers tot hedendaagse lichtvangers.
Cassandra van Veen schildert, tekent en aquarelleert, stillevens, landschappen en portretten. De verschillende genres worden benaderd vanuit een poëtische logica, met een hartstochtelijke beleving van de natuur, zonder daarbij de schilderkunstige uitgangspunten zoals compositie, ritme, vorm en kleur uit het oog te verliezen. Ze hoedt zich voor te grote overdrijving of deformatie van de vorm, maar van Veen zoekt wel degelijk naar gewaagdheid, gelaagdheid en het wezenlijke van haar onderwerp gevoed vanuit de Hollandse- en Vlaamse schilder traditie.
Cassandra van Veen (1964) graduated in 1992 at the Royal Academy of Arts Den Bosch, and works as a visual artist ever since. She makes drawings, paintings and watercolors of still life’s, portraits and landscapes on location ‘en-plein-air. In her poetic approach to the subjects she doesn’t lose the universal principles such as composition, shape and color, and it certainly doesn’t keep her from making daring, essential and layered work fed from the Dutch and Flemish tradition of painting.
